The formal responses to my suggestion, in the last newsletter, of a name change for the Society numbered 3 - or not quite 1% of the membership!
I would like to try and obtain the feelings of all the membership towards a possible name change before putting a motion at the AGM at Lincoln in February. I intend to regard such a survey as indicative only, but obviously if vast numbers opted for the status quo, it would be inappropriate to put the motion.
To reiterate the issues as I see them. The current name does not reflect an appropriate image for the activities of the Society. This can be rectified by incorporation of the word "science" into the title. Such a change would display the fact we are a scientific society and ultimately, I believe, would attract a greater membership. Further a name change may also make the Proceedings more saleable to overseas libraries.
Completion of the attached form is pretty straightforward. Please complete and return to Wanda by 16 September 1996.
