We are seeking an experienced part-time scientific editor or scientist with excellent literary or editorial skills to join the editorial team of the New Zealand Veterinary Journal (NZVJ).
The NZVJ is a high-quality peer-reviewed veterinary science journal serving the New Zealand veterinary and animal science communities and a broad international subscriber base, owned by the NZVA and published by a commercial publisher, Taylor & Francis Group (T&F).
This position will suit someone with a PhD or more than five years’ scientific publication experience in veterinary and(or) animal science, who has excellent scientific integrity, communication and people skills, and understanding of quantitative, qualitative and veterinary clinical science methods.
The Scientific Editor is responsible for managing all aspects of manuscript selection, peer-review and scientific editing of the NZVJ as a quality scientific publication of international standing. Copy-editing, typesetting and production is managed by T&F and the Scientific Editor is responsible for liaising with the T&F Production Editor regarding accepted manuscripts, proofs, issue composition and quality aspects of production. The Scientific Editor is also responsible for all aspects of communication with authors and referees, developing and maintaining excellent relationships, editorial standards and contributing to the development of editorial policy and procedures.
This position is approximately 0.2 FTE and reports to the Managing Editor (Peter Jolly) and is supported by an Assistant Editor and Editorial Board. The Scientific Editor may work as an independent contractor or employee of the NZVA, from the Editorial Office at Massey University in Palmerston North, the NZVA Office in Wellington, or from a distance.

Remuneration is commensurate with experience, as either a fixed rate per page of scholarly content (for independent contractors) or salary (if an NZVA employee).
